Who I Am

about

Hey there! I’m Jody and I’m here to help you fall in love with your food, your body and your life.

In other words…

My goal is to take you from feeling this:
Anxious, obsessive, depressed, over-weight, stuck, bored, restricted, negative, stubborn, up-tight, moody, miserable, closed off, disempowered.

To feeling this:
Calm, happy, pleasured, positive, open, balanced, easy-going, energetic, fun, limitless, honest, authentic, real, powerful!

Forget the stigma that healthy living is boring, unappealing, or inconvenient. I’ll show you how very sweet {literally, like dark chocolate milkshake sweet} healthy living can be!

But first, let’s back up a bit.

I started out just like you, following the path that had so generously been laid out for me. Great education. Great family. Great man.

 {Yup, that’s me, way before I got my freckles, as a bulky teenager sporting my favorite tankini, and with Mom at college graduation}

The traditional path suited me. I was fine with the status quo. What more did I need?

Well, to put to it simply, I needed to feel alive.
{Do you know the feeling?}

It took a bit of wandering for me, aka losing myself in unfamiliar places among unfamiliar faces. And in time, I eventually found the feeling I was looking for. A-ha! I felt alive when I was around food. Grocery shopping. Cooking. Blending. Mixing. Photographing. And most importantly, eating… indulging… savoring.

I can help you develop this same intimate relationship with your food, a relationship I now believe to be a prerequisite to a healthy, free life.

Why? Because without a good relationship to our food, we become disconnected from our bodies, stressed out by our looks, and obsessed with every bite we take. {Sound familiar?} We then feel overwhelmed and defeated and start suffering from many, if not all of the conditions I listed above.

I’ve been there too. Growing up in a house where health was always part of the conversation, I became overwhelmed by all the information {often conflicting information} and felt defeated after making all the “right” choices but not seeing the expected results.

Now, I’m known for making my relationship to my food and body look easy, effortless, living a life free of guilt and restrictive dieting.  The closer I got to my food, the closer I got to figuring it all out.

Discovering what food made me feel alive was just the start; all of a sudden it became much easier for me to recognize which people, which places, which kind of work and which kind of play also made me feel alive.

I found that I felt alive learning a new language. I felt alive doing early morning yoga on the beaches of Uruguay. I felt alive when I trusted in the unknown, when I said “yes” and ended up on a goat cheese farm at sunset in the northern tip of Argentina. I felt alive riding horses through mountains, sipping on tea with a local farmer, and snapping photos of his fields of red peppers.

Back home in Boston I feel alive talking for hours with friends, biking through farmer’s markets, and dancing salsa with strangers.

Most importantly though, I feel alive when I’m helping others to feel the same. I help others discover their food. I help them discover the ways they like to move and experience their bodies. I help them discover everyday chances to indulge in the sweetness of their lives.

And you know what happens? Each time a woman figures out what makes her feel alive, each time she falls in love with her food, her body, and her life, her smile becomes radiant. Her mood becomes contagious. Heads start to turn.

And I can help make that happen for YOU.

But listen, there are a lot of health coaches out there these days. If you’re going to trust me with your story you want to be totally sure I’m the coach for you, right?

To help you decide, here are a few more important details about me:

    • I’m certified. I’m a holistic health coach. I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the largest nutrition school in the world.
    • I’m educated. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
    • I’m multi-passionate. Besides coaching, I also work as a raw chocolatier {for Jo Jo’s Raw Kitchen, a raw chocolate delivery service I founded in 2012} and as a Bikram Yoga instructor {going on five years, mostly in the Boston area but also in Buenos Aires, Argentina}.
    • I walk my talk. Yes, I’ll tell you kale is the answer. But don’t be surprised if you catch me redhanded with a bowl of french fries at a downtown bar. Because what I claim is to be healthy, not perfect. 90% of the time you’ll see me chomping on whole, nutritious foods and the other 10% of the time you’ll see me going with the flow. Perfection is not what’s given me the body and life I want and the same will go for you.
    • I’m determined. From as early as I can remember, I found it outrageous that women disliked themselves so much, that their self-worth was so often determined by someone other than themselves {family, friends, media, etc.}. My eyes were further opened when I visited the most impoverished areas of Mexico and Kenya, when I volunteered in inner city Worcester and when I spent years working at an after-school program outside of Boston. The more aware I became of social pressures on every level, the more I knew I wanted to spend my life empowering women to become the best, most vibrant versions of themselves. I just happen to do it with chocolate and kale.
    • In free time I write, snap photos, and travel as much as possible. I’ve kept journals since I learned to write. It’s the way I most like to express myself. Mind Body Green and Handpicked Nation are a few of the online publications I’ve written for. Someday soon I’ll write a book! Check out my Instagram to see what inspires my photography. And what else can I say about traveling? It’s transformed my life.

So, that’s me! Now what do you think? Are you ready to have food that is more than “ok”, a body that you feel more than “fine” about, and a life that does more than “suit you”? Are you ready to fall in love with it all?
